Carrollton

Located upriver of the French Quarter, Carrollton was developed as a residential bedroom suburb of New Orleans. It became a separate town in 1833. Much of its development accelerated in 1836 due to the Carrollton Railroad. Middle and upper class families populated this area through the mid-19th century. By 1874, Carrollton was officially annexed by New Orleans, becoming the city’s 16th and 17th wards.

Carrollton features various architectural styles that consists of the traditional shotgun house, bungalows (raised basement one-story and raised basement two-story), and an array of eclectic structures.

Residents have access to two major commercial corridors, Oak Street and Maple Street. Every year locals flock to the Oak Street Po-Boy festival to enjoy good food and some of New Orleans finest artist and musicians. Speaking of musicians, catch a live performance at Maple Leaf Bar.
